MNZ: Harper's Magazine March 2008
Well, my stupid subscription ran out, but I didn't really care because I found Harper's to be annoying and pretentious at times. But then I found this in the free bin and remembered how great that oddball section up front always was. This one included excerpts from an interview with a Chinese mortician, and you can imagine how the hilarity ensues with that. I was all set to be like, "Harper's sucks except for that one part," but then there was a long-ass piece about these crusty punks trying to build a homemade boat to float down the entire Mississippi River from Minnesota to New Orleans. It was a great read, and really a good example of how, as anti-authoritarian as crusties are, they need regular society to pilfer off of and go back and beg, borrow, or steal from. If we were all crusty punks, we'd all probably be really fucking hungry. Although Colt 45 malt liquor would probably be enjoying a PBR-style resurgence in sales.

Word to that. Harper's can indeed be tedious and pretentious, but they always rebutt my arguments well.
