MNZ: Waxpoetics No. 28

The front and back cover stories of this issue - Al Green and Q-Tip - weren't the best pair I've ever ran across in Waxpoetics. I don't really give a fuck about Q-Tip, as that dude was always questionable genius in my mind already, and then he dropped that "Vivrant Thing" era load of crap, leaving poor funky diabetic Phife Dawg in the dust. So I got no love for Tip. But I love some old ass Al Green. His Greatest Hits is one of the best greatest hits comps you'll ever find, and probably one of the only CD re-releases of the album I'd say you should probably get as well, just for "Belle", which wasn't on the vinyl. But the Al Green interview just didn't do a whole lot for me... kinda boring. Al just hasn't had the same pizazz since that chick threw them hot grits on his ass.
Nonetheless, being a record nerd, Waxpoetics always has something great in there, and this issue didn't fail to deliver. Obscure 7-inches, east European funk bands, disco acetates... good stuff. Maybe not ten dollars good, but Waxpoetics has an inflated sense of its own importance, and I probably do too (hence, a blog), so I guess I can't hate upon that. Do your thang nerd magazine, do your thang.
