Raw Vision bills itself as the magazine for outsider art and artists, but as an art magazine, subscriptions are a zillion ass dollars for like four issues. The thing is, I never got an issue that didn't have something in it that impressed me immensely. One issue had some crazy Japanese dude with mental issues who taught himself how to do calligraphy, or basically write, and he would just write all over anything and everything he could find, like old calendars or flyers or whatever really, and his patterns of writing were in schizophrenic clusters that crawled up the paper. It was awesome shit. Now, he worked as a dishwasher in his family's restaurant, with a bunch of stuffed animals on the shelf. And every issue of Raw Vision had some wacky yet great bullshit like that.
I could probably use a fresh infusion of Raw Vision too, to finally finish up my stupid beerbox haiku wall hangings project that I've let linger in a nearly done stage for far too long. How will I ever end up the Jesco White Han Shan of the early 21st Century if I don't get all done with my madness, instead of cluttered by it all?
